"She seeks to destroy what she once created, though the dragons will shatter her victory before it begins. This cannot happen!"
Near on a hundred years ago, there was a meeting of all the great powers of Arlezar. Tulon, the master of Silyre Enclave, was there, along with the five Princes and their retainers. Tulon had summoned them all to hear a prophecy. Fearing the princes would be blinded by mistrust if Sisayah herself told them the prophecy, the mages found a human girl to take her place. She spoke of dead princes, forgotten gods, and a curse that would destroy the world. Obviously, everyone panicked. There was talk of exterminating the dragons permanently, or even leaving Arlezar to find a new home.
It only took fifty years for people to give up waiting for the end of the world. They didn't forget the prophecy - copies were made and distributed to the Princes, of which more copies were made, and the prophecy was taught to children as another bedtime story. It wasn't until seventy-two years after the Princes were informed of the prophecy, when a woman named Lera was killed for having a child who, by all accounts, had unnatural gifts of speech and knowledge, that the Princes began to reconsider their predecessors opinions.
It's been twenty-five years since the first spirit was reborn, and the world is starting to panic again. The new master of the Silyre Enclave has declared these days the days of prophecy. Rumours of the Shariya have been spreading, many believe they are responsible. Towns where hybrids might once have been safe are now full of murder. Even the mages are under suspicion, but no one really knows who to blame for the curse.
"A prince will be among the dead that the forgotten god releases from the forgotten halls. He alone was worthy of the last crown, yet it was denied him by four brothers."
The five Princes have always been rivals, always disputed old alliances and trade agreements to get the better deal. But never have they challenged the division of Arlezar - far too fearful of the Mages to even try conquering their neighbour. Now, the young Jarstene Prince has declared he will claim his birthright, declaring war on his neighbouring Princes.
The effect of the forgotten god's curse has become all too clear now - every child born has been another spirit dragged from their peace in the forgotten halls. The Prince claims to be one of them, and most of his own people do not doubt the claim that he is the murdered son of King Halian.
"The dragons carry a curse of their making. The world will darken with the wings of dragons and perish in their fire."
In the desert, the forgotten god has not been idle. Seeking allies and servants among the exiled and outcast, she has found haven in the desert. But now, twenty-five years after she cursed the world, her enemies have returned to stop her. Even with her spies among humans and allies in the Shariya, can she really hope to achieve her goals now that her brother has returned?
The Faceless Hand, who was once a god himself, has gathered dragon hunters and bandits to stop her, and stop the dragons from fulfilling the prophecy. He gave magic to humans for a reason, and even if it did start a war among brothers, he will not let the Huntress give it back to the Shariya.
